Malone Gate Lodge
The immediate context of the Malone area is mostly defined by distinctive one-off dwellings with a special combination of physical fabric and landscape character. Many of these buildings and dwellings maintain a listed status due to their special architectural or historical interest.
The character and appearance of this new proposal had to exhibit a strong sense of place whilst mixing seamlessly to the surroundings respecting the character of the area to an appropriate scale.
The concept and design established a traditional period dwelling with features typical of period properties including projecting bays, projecting porch and emphasis on detailing around windows and plinth. The over-sailing eaves surmounted by the hipped roof also reflect the architectural attribute to the built environment.
The use of distinctive materials, such as facing red brick and sandstone surrounds, further respects the character of the area and are typical of the Belfast skyline.
