Cargin Community Centre

Cargin GAC is a local football club and community building used for range of activities in Co. Antrim.

The club approached Patrick Bradley Architects in need of a design to renovate and extend the club and facilities. The new building provides 4 no. changing room, referee changing rooms, medical rooms, committee rooms, and created a much larger community hall / bar with a viewing platform over the pitch. The footprint of the building remained in parts reconfiguring the layout and spaces expanding towards the south of the site.

The 3 peaks formation of the roof was created by defining the internal spaces. It also peaks like the throws and kicks of the ball removing any concerns of high views being blocked when standing at first floor level.

The cladding was required to be durable to protect the buildings fabric from potential hard hits from the balls. The lower half was constructed of shuttered board mark concrete with expanded metal mesh over any openings acting as functioning aesthetics. The first floor is to be clad in metal sheets to match the clubs colour of green. A copper feature to the entrance will embellish persons names and is lit at night to attract attention and define the access point.
